My tee for the 60th anniversary celebration in San Francisco. I choose two songs/sequences that have been speaking to me recently, Cassidy, the quintessential Bobby song, and Wharf Rat out of Drums and Space.
I wanted to focus on a theme of duality. A common first set song and a second set song/sequence, a Bobby song and a Jerry song, two songs about different types of beginnings in life, and two entirely different moods that come from the Dead’s music. Cassidy is a driving, bright and atmospheric song and Wharf Rat coming out of Drums and Space is halting, it can rock you to the core, but also brings you back from the deep. The fractal images are a direct representation of these moods and the feeling I get when I listen to these songs.
I was particularly influenced by the legendary 6/20/83 Wharf Rat at Merriweather post Pavilion and the Cassidy from 10/19/89 at the Spectrum (Featured on Without a Net).
